Obituary for James Walter Hugh Johnson (Johnson)

JOHNSON WALTER
November 5, 1928 – October 10, 2020
Walter was the last remaining member of the Johnson Family.
He was a Bell Canada Pioneer
Walter was a life time member of the Masonic Lodge for over 50 Years.

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Walter H. Johnson, on October 10, 2020, in his 92nd year, in Brockville, ON. He was predeceased in July 2018 by his loving wife of 66 years, Muriel (Black) Johnson.
Walter was born on November 5, 1928, in Toyes Hill, ON, to Elzie and Irma (McIntosh) Johnson. He spent his early years farming on the Johnson homestead before joining Bell Canada. On July 16, 1952, Walter and Muriel were married at the United Church in Morrisburg, ON. During his lifetime, he also resided in Winchester, Smiths Falls, as well as our beloved cottage on Adam Lake, Perth. Walter was a Bell Canada Pioneer as well as a 50 year member of the Masonic order and he was the last patriarch of the Johnson family.

Walter was the cherished father of Kathryn (Pierre Joly) of Arnprior, ON, the treasured grandfather of Andre Joly (Heidie) of Carp, ON, and the doting great-grandfather of Isabelle and Kathryn (Katie) Joly. Walter is survived by several first cousins, his brother-in-law, Ralph Black, as well as nine nieces and nephews and their extended families.
Walter was predeceased by two older sisters, Beatrice (George Elliott) and Lorna (Lloyd Dixon); sisters-in-law, Lois (Black) Osler and Jean (Carruthers) Black; brother-in-law, Paul Osler; as well as his in-laws, Charles and Beatrice (Durant) Black.

Walter was a friend to many throughout Eastern Ontario and was always willing to lend a helping hand. He loved his tractors, lawn mowers and farm machinery – but most of all he loved socializing and reminiscing with friends, family and strangers alike.

Sincere appreciation and gratitude to the many friends and neigbours in Brockville and Adam Lake, who supported and cared for Walter, making it possible for him to maintain his independence a bit longer. Much love to his Bell Canada “family”, who enriched his life over the years.

Many thanks to the area hospitals and medical staff for their excellent and empathetic care in this difficult time.. Arrangements are entrusted with the Irvine Funeral Home & Chapel, 4 James Street East Brockville. In Walter’s memory, please consider making a memorial donation to a local Legion/service club of your choice or buy from local producers to support the agricultural sector.
At Walter’s request, there will be no visitation or service. Cremation has taken place and a private interment will be held at a later date in the Johnson family plot at Maple Ridge Cemetery.
Send condolences or share a special thought of Walter on the Memory Wall above. Thank you.
