Obituary for Teofil "Tolek" Ciszewski

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Dr. Teofil Ciszewski was born in Poland, where he spent most of his youth at his parent’s farm. Following his studies at the Medical Academy in Łódź, Poland, he pursued a career in laboratory and transfusion medicine. He later became the deputy director at blood centres in Zielona Gora, Bydgoszcz and Kielce, Poland. In December 1977, he accepted the position as director of the blood bank at the Jamahiriya Hospital in Benghazi, Libya. In January 1985, he and Alina immigrated to Canada to join their son, Dariusz, who was pursuing his studies in Thunder Bay. In 1986, Teofil and Alina moved to Sudbury, where he worked as an associate medical director of the Canadian Red Cross Services until his retirement in 2006. In 2012, they moved from Sudbury to Brockville to be close to their son and family.
Teofil, or “Tolek” as he was known to his family and friends, married the love of his life, Alina, on February 24th, 1962. They celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary this past February. Through the course of his career, which brought them to various parts of Poland, Libya and Canada, their lives were enriched by having to adapt to diverse cultures and lifestyles. His love of life and knowledge always kept him exploring new adventures, ideas and projects.
“Tolek”, “Tata”, or “Dziadzio” was deeply loved and will be greatly missed by his wife (Alina), son (Dariusz), daughter-in-law (Jane), and grandchildren (Stefanie and Chris), who cherished every life lesson he gave them. He will also be missed by his dearest sister, Irena, and relatives in Poland, as well as all of his friends. His kind and gentle spirit will live on in all of us, while his wit, sense of humour and generosity will keep us moving forward. We will laugh often when we think of him and all his antics.
A special thank you to Dr. Shaila Merchant and the caring healthcare team at the Kingston General Hospital.
