Obituary

Our dearest mother and wife; our companion; our shoulder; our confidant; the very heart in each of us and of our family. You are forever deeply loved and cherished. Our arms around you, as ever yours around us. We love you for all you are, and all you gave to us, and we are so grateful to have been on life’s journey hand in hand with you.

Following a courageous battle with cancer, Susan passed away peacefully at home on October 19th 2019, surrounded by loved ones.

Born in Beausejour, Manitoba, on November 28, 1957, to Frank and Nellie Michalow. Susan is survived by her husband Dave; her daughter Riley and son-in-law Stephen Joudoin; her mother-in-law Denise Shaw; her sisters Deborah Kozusko (Doug), Sandra Wright (Richard), and her brother Ronald Michalow; her sister-in-law Kelly Shaw (Geoff McVey) and brother-in-law Tom Shaw; as well as her adored nieces, nephews, and several great nieces and nephews. She was pre-deceased by her parents, father-in-law Ken Shaw, and sister-in-law Pat Michalow.

For 30 years, Susan was a business partner of Alan Brown’s Clothing. She was also a founding director of Brockville-based charity Canadian Aid for Chernobyl, and opened her heart and home to several Belarusian children. She never missed an opportunity to be with family, whether near or far. Her wisdom, humour, comfort, patience, and friendship will be treasured and greatly missed.

Special thanks to the compassionate staff of Bayshore Health Care, Brockville General Hospital, Kingston General Hospital, Palliative care, Oshawa Cancer Centre, Princess Margaret Hospital, and the supportive ‘Sisterhood’.

Family and friends are invited to a visitation on Wednesday, October 23rd from 3-7pm at the Irvine Reception Centre, 4 James St. E., Brockville. A private memorial for family will follow. In lieu of flowers, at Susan’s request, memorial donations will be gratefully appreciated to Canadian Aid for Chernobyl or a charity of your choice. Send a condolence on the memory wall above or place a donation using the link below.

Dear Dave and family,
We are saddened to hear about your loss. We had the pleasure of meeting Susan at your store many times during the 20 years we lived at Brockville..
Please accept our deepest condolences. Grief is such a personal thing and nothing anyone can say, or do, can take away the pain you are feeling…but please remember that others are thinking of you with heartfelt sympathy and caring.

With deepest sympathy,
Liz Quinn & Robert Brady
