Obituary for Dr. Rodger Doner

~~~~~~~~~
Rodger Douglas Doner, 84 years old, died peacefully at home on August 4, surrounded by his
loving family. He is survived by his wife Eileen (nee Caldwell), daughters Susan (Dave) and
Janet (Marc), granddaughters Isla and Sylvie, brothers Murray, Jim, Ralph, and sister Vivian
Tillotson. He was predeceased by his parents Norman and Verna Doner, and brother Oscar.
After competing in the 1964 Tokyo Summer Olympics, and completing his degree in dentistry,
Rodger and Eileen moved to Brockville, where he set up his dental practice.  He thoroughly
enjoyed his 47 years as a dentist, due in large part to his wonderful staff and patients.
Rodger’s love of sailing ultimately led him to embark on the epic experience of circumnavigating
the world on his 35’ sailboat. Assisted by a rotating crew of friends and family, this quest was
achieved in 7 stages between 1992-1999.
Rodger was a life-long learner, rabidly curious about a range of subjects. He was an innovative
problem solver, a fine craftsman, and an avid wordsmith. He was renowned for his sense of
humour.
In memory of Rodger, donations may be made to the YMCA Eastern Ontario or Brockville
Hospital Foundation/Palliative Care.
Private arrangements have have taken place.
