Obituary for Richard Gordon Robert Rogers

Passed away peacefully at the Brockville General Hospital, on a sunny Monday afternoon. Robert was born and raised in Fort William (Thunder Bay), Ontario, graduated with a BSc from the U of Guelph in 1964, followed by a MSc in Economics from U of Guelph in 1966. He worked as a senior economist for Bell Canada in Montreal and Ottawa for over 30 years.
After retirement, Rob took time to research his family genealogy and wrote “A History of One Rogers Family in Canada”. He was proud to note that “Rogers Road” on the Island of Gibraltar was named after one of his ancestors, Major Jacob William Rogers, who was stationed there with the British Army, in 1790.

Among his many passions, Rob enjoyed making music with family and friends and boating adventures on the Rideau Canal and in the Florida Everglades.

Just a week before he passed away, Rob was doing what he loved, playing his concertina with friends in a Sunday afternoon “Traditional Irish Music Session”, at a popular local coffee shop.

Beloved husband of Sue (nee Kennedy) and loving father of Jeff (Natalie) Rogers, James (Lesley) Rogers and Kathleen Rogers. Loved and survived by his seven grandchildren: Patricia, Allen, Dylan, Mara, Jade, Hannah and Kanen. Dear Brother of George (Nancy) Rogers. Dear brother-in-law of John (Virginia) Kennedy, Pat (Bob deceased) Bond, Brian (Janet deceased) Graham. Also survived and sadly missed by two uncles, one aunt, many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends from across Canada, the United States, Australia and Ireland. Robert was predeceased by his parents Kathleen Patricia (nee Coulter) Rogers and George Gordon Rogers.
Family and friends are invited to a Memorial Service in the Irvine Funeral Home & Chapel, 4 James St. E., Brockville on Saturday, October 16th at 1:30 pm. A reception will follow in the Irvine Reception Centre.
