Obituary for Ray Place

~~~~~~~~~~~
After a brief illness Raymond Morley Place entered into rest peacefully at the Brockville General Hospital on Sunday August 14, 2022 with his wife and daughter by his side.
Ray was born in Brockville, Ontario on April 4, 1954 son of the late Ray and Eleanor Place. Ray attended Commonwealth Public School and Brockville Collegiate Institute. He retired from Hansler Smith at the age of 65 after many years of service.
Ray will be greatly missed by his loving wife of 46 years Betty – Dawn (nee Spicer), his daughter Lindsay Coates, her husband Curt and granddaughter Ella.
Ray is survived by his stepmother Connie Place, siblings Danny, Randy, Tim, Greg and Cathy; Uncle and Aunts Bill & Yvonne Steenburgh and Craig & Barb Stewart. Sister-in-law Karen Spicer, Julie Spicer and brother-in-law Don Spracklin, and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Ray was an avid sports fan both as an athlete and observer. He played baseball in Brockville through Little League, Connie Mack and eventually became a proud member and starting pitcher for the Brockville Bunnies.
Ray spent many years on the fields and in numerous gyms watching and supporting his daughter Lindsay while she played basketball for the Brockville Blazers, TISS Pirates and slo-pitch softball.
Ray was huge Montreal Canadians and Boston Red Sox fan. He was often seen wearing some sort of Red Sox or Canadians paraphernalia from his collection. This past spring, Ray fulfilled a lifelong dream by attending a Red Sox game at Fenway Park in Boston with Lindsay.
Since his retirement; Ray and Betty Dawn enjoyed travelling and spending time with friends and family, with recent trips to Nashville, Mexico and Dominican Republic most memorable. Of late he spent most of his time with his best friend and granddaughter Ella. He loved attending her horse shows, ball games, and played numerous games of mini golf together.
Ray had a friendly and outgoing demeanor and will be missed by all the knew him.
A celebration of Ray’s life will be held at Sam’s Brass Rack, 24 Perth Street, Brockville from 1pm to 4pm on Saturday, August 27th, 2022. Please feel free to wear your favourite sports team shirt.
Donations in memory to the Brockville and District Hospital Foundation or Crohn’s and Colitis Canada would be gratefully acknowledged.
Send Condolences or share a special thought of Ray on the memory wall above.
