Obituary for Phyllis Shewan

SHEWAN, Phyllis Irene (nee Mallory)
March 19th, 1933 – April 24th, 2023

After having just celebrated her 90th birthday recently with those she loved so much, Phyllis passed away peacefully at the Brockville General Hospital. Predeceased by her beloved Jim over 20 years ago, she leaves behind her children, Sandi (Allan Deir), Rick (Lucy), Jim (Ginette) and David. She was a beloved Nanny to her many grandchildren and ‘Old Nanny’ to several great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her daughter, Linda Shewan-Binkley, her parents Charles and Jessie Mallory, and as one of 6 children, she was the only surviving sibling, having been predeceased by brothers Charlie (Phyllis), Lorne (Bev - surviving), Fred (Freda - surviving) and Harry, and her sister, Dorothy (Forrest Christie).

She will be lovingly remembered by her in-laws, most especially by Tom and Wanda Shewan, Eric Shewan and Barbara Shewan, by her many nieces and nephews, of both the Mallory and Shewan families, and countless lifelong friends, who will miss her dearly.

She had a determined strength and resilience, a strong faith and a funny side that not everyone got to see, but if and when they did, was priceless, and her legacy will live on in the hearts and minds of those she knew and those she touched.

Family and friends may pay their respects at the Irvine Funeral Home, 4 James St. E., BROCKVILLE on Friday, April 28th, 2023 from 2:00pm – 4:00pm and 6:00pm – 8:00pm. A funeral service to celebrate Phyllis’ life will be held in the chapel of Irvine Funeral Home, 4 James St. E., BROCKVILLE the following day, on Saturday April 29th, 2023 at 11 am, with interment to follow at Roselawn Memorial Gardens.

For those who wish, donations may be made to the Leeds & Grenville OSPCA Humane Society – Brockville, and will be gratefully appreciated by the family. Leave a condolence or share a memory of Phyllis by clicking on the Memory Button above.
