Obituary for Peter Lewis
The heavy hearts of Wendy, Sarah (Andrew Chadwick), James, Gavin and Matthew, share the sad news of the loss of our Husband, Father and Grandfather, Peter Edsell Lewis.
After beating cancer 4 years previously, Peter succumbed to a second, more aggressive cancer on June 29th 2019. Peter was able to be surrounded by his family and dear friends at the end and leaves behind a legacy of strength of character, community engagement and love of life that those who knew him will always cherish.
In Wendy (nee Hutton) he found his love for life and his rudder for direction. His greatest dance partner for more than 50 years, their marriage was a true testament to love, understanding and strength and leaves an indelible mark on anyone who witnessed that over the years.
Peter’s life was a testament to doing what’s right. He faithfully served his clients as an agent for Sun Life, was a stalwart supporter of the community, participated in many charitable organizations including Rotary, Kinsmen, DBIA and others all for the betterment of the City of Brockville.
He delighted in his children and was strongly engaged in their lives growing up. Between swim meets, karate and guitar lessons, band concerts, Bingo Fundraisers and summers at the cottage, Peter ensured Sarah and James were given every opportunity for an amazing life and also the tools to build their own as they grew up.
His Grandchildren hold a special place in his heart and he in theirs. Fewer things delighted him more than talking golf with Gavin and Matthew.
Peter also leaves behind a sister Margaret (Ken Green), In-laws Richard Hutton, Ulla Mueller, and Betty and Glen Pearce and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his Parents Helen and Ken Lewis of Belleville ON.
The family would like to thank the tremendous care from the Kingston Cancer Centre, specifically Dr. J. Franklin and Dr. Zaza as well as the Brockville Palliative Care Unit. The care and personal involvement with Peter’s fight with cancer over the past 4 years was remarkable and much appreciated.
Per Peter’s wishes there will not be a service, those wishing to make a memorial donation can direct them to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Brockville Hospital Foundation Palliative Care Unit.
