Obituary for Neil Harvey Howley

Neil Howley, peacefully with his family by his side after a brief illness, on Saturday, March 12, 2022 at the age 53 at the Kingston General Hospital. Loving husband of Catherine (Maggio) and father of Levi, Domenica, Isabella and Anthony. Brother of Grant (Gerard), Lyle, Edward (Shelley) and Glenna Barry (Daryn) and brother-in-law of Shelley Sparks (George), and son-in-law of Alice Maggio and the late Joe Maggio. Uncle of Dean and Brandon Howley, Christopher and Nicole Barry and Sienna and Sayge Sparks. Neil is predeceased by his parents Patricia and Glen Howley.

Neil was taken suddenly and he will be missed by many friends and family. One of Neil’s favourite pastimes was gardening, and he curated perennial beds and seasonal planters in his yard with great detail and devotion. He could cut grass for hours and loved being outdoors, especially in the summer sun. He loved Christmas, and his décor at the holidays was nothing short of the pages of Martha Stewart magazine. Shortbread cookies, lemon cheesecakes and some of the best Easter Bunny cakes were among his specialties. His attention to detail and the pleasure he took in making special occasions festive made them shine, and made home special. He loved woodworking, and took great pride in making many beautiful shelves and cabinets that are cherished by his family. His greatest joy was found in the successes and milestones of his children, as they have grown up, and he will have the greatest seat in the house as these milestones continue. Sunday morning waffles, snoozing in the hammock, family time on trips to the beach and home to the farm in Caledonia, dancing and cruising in his convertible Beetle were all things he loved, and shared with his family. The funny mannerisms, silly faces he made and his sense of humour will be recalled by family and friends alike and will continue to make people smile and laugh.

Family and friends are invited to the Irvine Funeral Home, 4 James St., E., Brockville on Wednesday, March 16th, 2022 from 2-5 pm. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, March 17, 2022 at 2 pm at Wall Street United Church, 5 Wall St., Brockville.
