Obituary for Muriel Frances Joan Modler (Best)

Muriel Frances Joan (Best) Modler
February 21, 1938 - April 25, 2019

Muriel passed away peacefully at Sherwood Park Manor in Brockville on April 25, 2019 at the age of 81 years.

Beloved wife of the late Gordon Modler and common-law partner of the late Kenneth Gillespie. Dear mother of Janet Berry (Dave Findlay), Jeff Modler (Marilyn) and Greg Modler (Kelly). Stepmother to Shanen Gillespie (Amy) and Erin Gillespie (Mas Ozeki). Loving Grandmother to Kevin Berry (Sara), Heather Berry (Brad Sopha), Evan Modler (Catheryn Ford), Alex Modler (Shenda Harrison), Rebecca Modler, Jacqueline Modler, Ashlynn Gillespie, Ethan Gillespie and Nobu Ozeki. Proud great grandmother to Jaxson Sopha and Callie Peters-Ford. Sister to Ernest Best (Barb) and predeceased by sisters Jean (Alvin) Running and Anne (Winston) and parents Harry and Kathleen Best.

Born in Loughborough, ON, Muriel spent her adult life in the Prescott area. Whether it be spectator at the rink, working at the high school or later working at the police station, Muriel was ready to chip in with a welcoming smile, a hand to help and a quick sense of humour. Muriel will be remembered for her honest golfing skills, participating in numerous bonspiels, her green thumb and her love of travel. She enjoyed many winters at the Prescott Curling club, many summers at the Prescott Golf Club and was even known to tackle a ski hill or two in her time. She loved anything that would take her outdoors, even if it was sitting out on her back deck on Park St East.

We would like to thank the entire staff at Sherwood Park Manor for the wonderful and loving care you gave Muriel these past 4.5 years.

Family and friends are invited to a celebration of life and reception at the Irvine Memorial Chapel and Reception Centre at Roselawn, 2451 County Rd 15, Maitland, ON K0E 1P0 on Tuesday, April 30th at 11:00AM.
