Obituary for Muriel Noella Jones (Tanney)

With deep sorrow we announce the passing of Muriel Jones at Sherwood Park Manor on April 26th, 2022 with her daughters by her side.
Muriel was born in Caintown March 22, 1923 to the late Arthur Tanney and Annie May Carter. She received her early education at Row’s Corners School and graduated from B.C.I.V.S. In 1939. She worked at Phillips Electric and the Officers Training Centre in Brockville. In 1943 she joined the Navy (WRCNS) with basic training in Galt and St. Hyacinth, Quebec working in the Navy Building in Ottawa as a teletype coder.
In 1944 she married Lieutenant. Howard Jones of Abbotsford, B.C. at the OTC chapel.
After their children grew up, they travelled across Canada and the U.S. in their motor home. They spent many winters in Yuma, Pompano Beach and Myrtle Beach. She enjoyed many bus trips and cruises in later years.
She never stopped learning. She took a medical secretary course working for many years at both the Brockville General Hospital and St. Vincent de Paul. She attended St. Lawrence College graduating with a Fine Arts certificate in 1998 and her paintings were appreciated by many family members. Muriel loved golfing, travelling, swimming. Skating and any outdoor activity and were often first out with the grandchildren. She water-skied for the last time at 80 years of age and the same year, took ballroom dancing classes.
She was predeceased by her siblings Mary Gill, Wilbur Tanney, Lillian Perry and James Tanney. Her husband Howard passed in 1999 and best friend and dance partner, Jim Hoy, in 2019.
Muriel is survived by her children Diana Williamson (Glenn), Bruce Jones (Gail), Melannie Earle (Steve) and Barry Jones. Grandchildren Sarah Lounds (Rob) Jessica Jones, Ericka Hunt (Will) Christopher Earle, David Earle. Great Grandchildren Casalin Lepage, Jaelyn Lepage, Cooper Hunt (Taylor), Clarke Hunt and Great, Great Granddaughter Blaine Donna-Lin Hunt. Her sister Betty Jones also survives.
At Muriel’s request, there will be no visitation with private internment following cremation.
Donations to Sherwood Park Manor will be gratefully acknowledged by the family.
