Obituary for Margaret Robinson

At the inspiring and tender age of 94, Margaret Robinson passed her last breath much like her life, quietly and privately while in the company of her devoted sister and loving niece on Saturday June 4th in Brampton, Ontario.

Margaret was born on August 29th, 1927 in Brockville, Ontario to parents William and Louisa Robinson (nee Hunt). She moved with them and brothers (predeceased) George, Albert and Bill to Montreal in the mid 1930's where her sister Mary was born.

In her late teens, the independent Margaret returned to Brockville to live with her Aunt Lucy (nee Hunt) and Uncle Jim Polley. She remained a fixture in the Brockville community for the next 70 years where she could often be found on the golf course or playing badminton.

Margaret’s long and successful career began as a phone assembler with the Automated Electric Company of Brockville (later AEL Microtel) culminating in a special retirement party celebrating her 40 years of service.

Above all else, Margaret was known as an outdoorswoman. Each of her nieces and nephews Paul, David, Jim, Carol, Leslie, Ian, Terri and Graham and their many children fondly recall memories and stories of her exploits water skiing, fishing, boating and swimming to “The Rock” at her beloved cottage on Beverley Lake.

Margaret personified the axiom that still waters run deep. She was a terrific listener, keeper of secrets and a talented artist. Margaret’s paintings captured the natural beauty surrounding her, demonstrating keen observation and a true understanding of living in the moment.

While the ebb of time slowed Margaret, she flowed harmoniously with the tides of her life. Those privileged to share her last years continued to bask in her contented glow. Margaret continued to infuse us with wisdom, quips, witticisms and observations to her last days.

Family and friends are invited to pay their respects at the Irvine Funeral Home, 4 James St. E., on Friday, June 10th. Visitation from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm, with funeral service to be held in the chapel at 1:00 pm. Interment will follow at the Oakland Cemetery, with a reception to follow in Irvine’s reception center.

In remembrance, donations to The Canadian Cancer Society or the Canadian Heart and Stroke Foundation will be gratefully acknowledged by the family.

Send condolences or share a special thought of Margaret on the Memory Wall above.
