Obituary for Margaret May Gainsford (Hinchey)

Margaret May (née Hinchey, Keyworth) Gainsford died peacefully at the age of 86 in Brockville, Ontario, on Wednesday the 13th of November, 2019. She will be missed dearly by her husband, John Gainsford, and her children Lynn Keyworth-Willows, Giulietta Keyworth, and John Keyworth. She was beloved grandmother to Michael, Terry, and Joanne Hardiman; Erica and Nicholas Burton; Gary Keyworth; and Rachel and Brittany Willows. Margaret was also great-grandmother to Leah, Sean, Tommy and Caelan. She is survived by her sister Joan (Lawrence) Coombe and predeceased by her parents Charles and Teresa Hinchey and siblings Ailsa Scott, Helen Perrin, Arthur, and Michael, and also her loving daughter Kim Hardiman.

Margaret was born on Sunday the 11th of June, 1933, in Calcutta, India, the youngest of six children. At the age of 13, she moved to Ashtead, Surrey, England with her family. She lived and raised her own family in England, working as a secretary, before making Canada her home. Margaret was, first and foremost, a loving and devoted mother and later cherished her role as Nana/Nana-mac. Margaret had an affinity for cats, like her mother before her, and leaves behind her companion Mojo. She adored all wildlife, particularly elephants, and would spend hours watching elecams and safaricams. She was also an avid bird feeder and loved all things red. She loved music and couldn’t resist the occasional dance around the living room to a catchy tune; her taste was eclectic and ranged from Sarah Vaughan to Queen. Her favourite song of late was Hallelujah by the Canadian Tenors, and of course she would always sing along to Rod Stewart’s “Maggie May.” She was famous within her family for her unmatchable cheese macaroni and her quirky necessity to stir out all the bubbles from her fizzy cider. Margaret was a gracious woman who was loved by all who met her.

Private arrangements have been entrusted with the Irvine Funeral Home and Chapel, 4 James Street East, Brockville.
