Obituary

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
John passed away peacefully on International Boys day, Sunday, May 16, 2021 at Brockville General Hospital, Brockville at the age of 82 with his daughter Cheryl by his side due to Covid 19 restrictions. He is predeceased by his parents Ellen (Alger) and Elwin Hanson Sr. of Middleborough Mass.
John is survived lovingly by Lorraine (Boutilier) Hanson, 3 brothers Elwin Hanson Jr., David and Diane Hanson of Middleborough Mass, Raymond and Carol Hanson of Shelbyville Indiana. Dearly missed by his 4 children Paula (Edwin) Markell of Greencastle Pa, Fred (Chong Hee) Hanson of Osan Korea, Cheryl (Paul) Kirkland of Maitland On, Pamela Beshore of Harrisburg Pa. He will be lovingly remembered and missed by Grandchildren Tyler (Kathy), Sara and Lindsey Markell, Alicia, Nathan and Susan Hanson, Rick (Jen) and Brad (Jenni) Kirkland, Jenny and Katie Howe, plus 13 great grandchildren Ethan and Lily (Markell) Kylee, Liam and Xander (Hanson), Arianna, Callie, Levi and Harley (Kirkland), Claire and Hailey (Kirkland), Noah and Payton (Howe) many nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.
John was born in Middleborough Mass on August 12, 1938. He came to Canada in 1971 with his young family embarking on his passionate career in the restaurant business with Howard Johnson’s. Later settling in the Brockville area. John loved life, spending time boating, teaching his kids and nephews how to fish, and camping with his family. He enjoyed gardening and volunteering at the Restore and Lyn United Church. He became an avid race fan later on in life travelling to Ontario and Upstate New York Dirtcar tracks.
John had quietly battled with cancer, diabetes, kidney, heart and stroke over the last year. Never once complaining of any pain he may have had. He was grateful for the care he received from the many doctors, nurses and attendants at the Brockville General, Kingston General, and Providence Care Hospital’s.
The family wishes to express sincere thanks on John’s behalf to the entire team at the Mayfield Retirement home Prescott for every kindness shown to John during his time there and for the compassionate and supportive care over the last year.
Memorial Donations in his name to the Lyn United Church, Lyn Ontario would be gratefully acknowledged.
Interment will be held at the Roselawn Memorial Gardens, 2451 County Rd 15, Maitland ON. A public graveside service will be held on Monday, June 28 at 10 am with Rev. Jack Bradley officiating.
