Obituary for Jean Gilbert
Mrs. Jean Isabelle Gilbert of Brockville died on March 10th; just three months shy of her 97th birthday.
Jean was born in Fort William on June 23rd, 1926 to Isabelle and Alan Saunders. The family moved to Owen Sound where she completed her schooling and then went to Hamilton and earned her nursing degree. The family moved to Brockville where she taught nursing at the Brockville General Hospital school of nursing.
She is survived by her husband Frederick, children Stephen, Nelson, Christopher, Margaret, and eleven grandchildren – Malorie, Averie, Paige, Caitlin, Reid, Michael, William, James, Alex, Nicolas and Ryan.
Her gift was her unconditional love along with her compassion, empathy and forgiveness. Jean was an active member of Wall Street United Church and Bible Club. She loved history, and was a member of the Brockville Heritage Association. She was also a Reiki teacher and attended spirituality events. Loving wife, mother and grandmother; she will be dearly missed.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, March 15, 2023 at Irvine Funeral Home in Brockville, from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. A celebration of her life will be held on Thursday March 16, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at the Wall St United Church.
Donations on her behalf to the Brockville General Hospital Palliative Care would be greatly appreciated.
