Obituary for Gertrude Ruigrok

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Gertrude Ruigrok (Overes) on February 7, 2022 at the age of 87 in Brockville, Ontario. She will be sadly missed by her husband Frank, of over 66 years. They shared the most beautiful love two people could have. Gertrude is survived by her five children; Charles (Jacquie) of Calgary, Patricia VanSchie (Albert) of Metcalfe, Nancy Jowett (Ken) of Brockville, Linda Wongkee (Alan) of St. Lazare, QC, and Maria Ruigrok of Kitchener. Gert dearly loved her 14 grandchildren and 25 great grandchildren. She also leaves her sister Nel Hermes(Jan) from Holland, her sister-in-law, Anne (John dec’d) Ruigrok from Brockville. As well as, extended family residing in Holland and many nieces and nephews in Canada, Holland and the US.

Gert was born in Pijnacker, Holland on May 19, 1934. She immigrated to Canada in 1955 to marry the love of her life, Frank. They have been in love, devoted and almost inseparable for over 66 years. Gert raised her family in North Augusta and then worked for Scott’s Restaurants, along the 401, for many years. She was an active church member of St Theresa’s Church in North Augusta. Gert was a great gardener and cook, famous for her carrot cake and meatball soup. She will be remembered for her kindness, positivity and great sense of humour. Her love and devotion to her husband was inspirational. Family was always her foundation, she hosted many extended family parties and got such joy from her great great grandchildren. She was just such a warm, generous, friendly woman, who left an impression on most who met her.

We extend the most sincere thanks to the Royal Brock Living staff for all the kindness and love they gave freely to our mom, over the last four years. Gert always said that there was no place she'd rather live. We also want to offer our gratitude to the staff at the BGH (1East) for their wonderful care in the last few weeks.

A celebration of Life ceremony will take place at a later date, when we can gather the crowd mom would have wanted.

In lieu of flowers, a donation to a charity of your choice will be acknowledged. Brockville Food Bank and Heart and Stroke Foundation were some of her favourites. Please share your thoughts or memories on the memory page.
