Obituary for Fondie (Folkje) Vellenga

Predeceased by her loving husband Lieuwe (Lou) Vellenga.
Folkje was one of four children, ( Annie, Rinse, and Jan) born to Foeke and Baukje Rinsma in Friesland, The Netherlands.
In 1950 Lieuwe and Folkje left their homeland to begin a life in their chosen country of Canada. They started with nothing and worked very hard to eventually own and operate a dairy farm. They were blessed with three children, Ann, Marion (Bob), and Ron (Nancy).
Everyone pitched in on the dairy farm, making it a fulfilling lifestyle and successful business. Lieuwe passed away on April 1, 1978, at which point the farm was sold. Folkje continued to contribute to her community and family, and shared her passions of gardening, handcrafts, and excellent baking.
Folkje had a very quiet gentle nature about her, but her presence was very strong in her families’ lives. Her loyalty and devotion were unwavering.
Folkje has ten grandchildren and is a great-grandmother to thirteen children.
A warm thank you to the kind staff at St. Lawrence Lodge in Brockville, Ontario, and a special thank you to Donna, who loved and helped care for Fondie in her final years.
There will not be a service at this time.
In lieu of flowers, donations would be gratefully appreciated to either the ALS Society, or the Alzheimer’s Society.
Leave a message of condolence or share a special thought of Fondie on the memory wall above.
