Obituary for Eileen Perkins

~~~~~~~~~~~
It is with sadness that we’ve said goodbye to our mother, grandmother and great grandmother, Eileen Perkins passed away on Feb.25th after a brief stay in hospital.
She was a free spirit, born in London England into a large family of 6 5 sisters and 1 brother and emigrated to Canada in 1957 with her husband Gerald and her 3 children. She was predeceased by her husband but her loving and joyful way lives on in her children, her 4 amazing grandchildren and her 4 great grandchildren. Her wit and wisdom could make you laugh with her many English sayings like “knock me up again” – translation, “please call me again” and could confound most acquaintances with her cockney rhymes spoken in her accented English voice.
Eileen was independent person and chose to live alone in Lyn, Ontario. She did not drive but still found ways, thanks to her large cadre of friends, to get about. She volunteered at the Brockville General Hospital for 40 years working in the gift shop and could be found visiting the patients and pushing her cart.
She and her husband traveled later in life with trips to China, America, a Caribbean cruise, trips across Canada to visit friends & children and she frequently “crossed the pond” to catch up with her family there.
If raising 3 kids wasn’t challenging enough, she also took in foster children giving them a loving and warm experience and she was still in touch with some of her foster children noting their birthdays and holidays. Mother could always see humor in the most challenging of situations and not much could get her down – a trait she passed along to her children.
Mother had many friends in the Brockville community and when asked if she would like to move closer to her family elsewhere, she was adamant and would stay in Brockville. This was where her roots, her friends and her life was. Mother valued the independent living that she later found at the Legion Village Seniors Residence and enjoyed the companionship of many of her friends there.
And we, the family, say to all those who knew mother, supported mother, and befriended her, we thank you. We also wish to express our sincere gratitude to the Brockville General Hospital caregivers for their support and care shown to our mother and to our family. We cannot say enough to the dear family friends, Tietje & Dorothy, who were a much loved support and companions to mother throughout her life…thank you.
A Celebration of Life service will be post pandemic and in lieu of flowers, the family ask that you consider a donation in Eileen’s memory to the Brockville General Hospital https://www.brockvillegeneralhospital.ca/en/get-involved/donate.aspx.
