Obituary for Edward (Eddie) Allen

Edward (Eddie) Walter Allen
September 25, 1930 – February 17, 2024

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our father and husband, Edward (Eddie) Allen. Eddie passed away on Saturday, February 17 at the age of 93. Predeceased by his parents Gordon and Agnus Allen. Survived by his wife Helen (nee Darling), children Steven (Kim) Allen and Brian (Dani) Allen, grandchildren Ashley (Matt) Tyo, Ryan Allen (Emma Wilson), Chelsea (Rohit) Gupta, Jacob Allen, and great grandchildren Jackson, Addisyn, and Roman.

Edward (Eddie) was born in Lancaster South, Ontario on September 25th 1930. He moved to Brockville with his parents as a young boy, where he grew up and eventually met his future wife in 1955 . Eddie and Helen were married in Brockville on September 12, 1959. Eddie built their home in Spring Valley, where they raised their two boys, and lived for 60 years.

Eddie and Helen loved to dance and spent many evenings dancing with their circle of friends at local dance halls well into their eighties. Eddie also loved telling jokes, playing cards, camping, fishing, collecting baseball caps, and spending time with family.

Eddie worked at CP Express as a local delivery driver for 37 years. After retiring Eddie could be found tinkering in his garage, doting on his grandchildren, dancing with good friends, and spending the winter months as a snowbird in Florida.

Eddie leaves behind his wife Helen who was his best friend and the love of his life. He was a kind, gentle man with an easy smile and twinkle in his eye who tried to make everyone’s day just a little brighter. He will be greatly missed by his family and “Fox Run” family.

Family and friends are invited to attend a celebration of Eddie’s life at the Centennial Road Church, 3545 Country Road 27, RR #2, Lyn, Ontario on Thursday 22nd February at 11am with a reception to follow.

As expressions of sympathy, memorial donations to the Canadian Cancer Society or The Alzheimer’s Society of Lanark Leeds Grenville would kindly be appreciated and acknowledged by the family. We extend a special heartfelt thank you to the staff, nurses, and PSWs at Fox Run by the River Retirement Home for their loving care over the last several years.

Send a message of condolence or share a special thought of Eddie on the memory wall above.
