Obituary for Edith Sheahan

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Edith Sheahan (McGowan) after a short but courageous battle with cancer on Oct. 11, 2022.

Edith was born in Eganville, on August 2, 1932, to Peter McGowan and Agnes (Maski) McGowan. Edith was a devout Roman Catholic, wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and was a Registered Nurse for 37 years. She cherished her family and always put their needs before her own. Edith was the cherished wife of Joseph Sheahan (predeceased 2016) for 60 years.

Dear mother of Pat (Lee), Maureen (Terry Cattani), Michael (Grace), Charles (Rashmi), Rosemary (Gary Pidhirny), Tim (Ann), Terry (Heather), Sheila (Marc Lefebvre). Cherished grandmother to 15 grandchildren, Ryan, Erin, Devan, Connor, Shannon, Kim, Meagan, Patrick, Daniel, Justin, Tyler, Kyle, Brendan, Bria, Colleen and 9 great grandchildren and one due in October. She is survived by 2 sisters, Elaine Furiak, Beverly (John Clark) as well as 2 sisters in law Shirley and Elsie McGowan. Predeceased by brothers, John, Ike, Frank, Robert, Des, Joe and infant sister Theresa and fondly remembered by numerous nieces and nephews.

Mom was a long-time member of the Catholic Women’s League. She loved music, enjoyed doing crossword puzzles, knitting and reading.

Family and friends may call at the Irvine Funeral Home & Chapel, 4 James Street East Brockville from Sunday, October 16th from 2-4 and 6-8 pm. The Liturgy of the Christian Funeral will be celebrated in St. Francis Xavier Church on Monday, October 17th at 10 am with interment to follow at St. Francis Xavier Cemetery.

Mom was always a generous donor throughout her life. As expressions of sympathy, donations to the Monastery of Mount Carmel Society of the Little Flower or Covenant House would be gratefully acknowledged. A special thank you to the compassionate PSW's from Care Partners and RPN's from St. Elizabeth's Health Care.
