Obituary for Douglas Kirkby

Passed away peacefully at his residence with his family by his side on Sunday, December 27, 2020. Douglas Earl Kirkby, at the age of 71 years. Doug was a longtime employee of Selkirk Metals having started to work at the age of 15 and worked his way up to a first class millwright mechanic retiring after spending 46 years with the company. He married the love of his life, the former Heather Whiteland, on May 25th, 1973. Heather predeceased him in May of 2016. Doug had a passion for the river and enjoyed his cigarette boat Beav's Bluff. His main interest though was spending time with his family and his home. Doug is survived by his two sisters Evangeline Hunsicker (John) and Elizabeth Mathieson (Doug). Also survived by a number of nieces and nephews including Tammy and Dennis Crowder. He was predeceased by his parents James and Ruth (Buzzell) Kirkby and by his brother Ted Kirkby (Linda survives).

Family and friends are invited to pay their respects at Irvine Funeral Home and Chapel, 4 James Street East, Brockville on Wednesday, December 30th from 2-4 pm.

Due to Covid limitations, a private family service will be held in the Chapel on Thursday, December 31st. The service is available for viewing below.

As expressions of sympathy, donations to the SPCA Leeds Grenville branch will be gratefully acknowledged.
