CARR, Douglas James
August 27, 1938 - January 5, 2023

Passed away peacefully at Brockville General Hospital Palliative Care Centre on January 5, 2023 at the age of 84 years.

Beloved husband of the late Jenny (Haley). Loving and deeply cherished father of Wendy Gillespie (Laird) of Toronto.

Dear brother of the late Kenneth Carr and sister Mavis Robertson of Winnipeg. Also survived by his devoted sisters-in-law Alice (Carr), Betty (Haley) and Susan (Haley). Greatly missed by his surviving brothers-in-law Bill Haley, Don Boulton and Ed Cox, as well as Murray Botham who holds the special honor of also being Doug's cousin, who always considered him a brother not only a brother-in-law.

He was predeceased by his parents Seth and Ethel Carr (nee Dunlop).

Fondly remembered by his godson and nephew Gary Carr (Brooke), nieces Deb Cole (Calgary) and Heather Nolan (Kenora). Proud Uncle and Great-Uncle to several other nieces and nephews.

As a family, we remember Doug as loving, loyal and very resilient when dealing with life's many challenges including bladder, skin and more recently, prostate and bone cancer. His warm, engaging personality and endearing smile will be forever missed. Doug was a great story teller who affectionately remembered his life and adventures growing up on the family farm near Mott's Mills.

Doug loved to reminisce about the 22 years he spent employed at RCA Victor Ltd. in Smiths Falls (1957-1979). He was also an avid car buff and a news junkie, but first and foremost was his great love of family and times spent making keepsake memories. Doug often reflected on his good fortune to have travelled to both Western and Eastern Canada, as well as Nashville. Prior to COVID Doug enjoyed sharing Saturday mornings with his brothers-in-law at 'Bill's Coffee Club'.

In keeping with Doug's final wishes, a private family service will be held with interment at the Oakland Cemetery in Brockville.

A Celebration of Life will be held on St. Patrick's Day, Friday, March 17th between 1pm - 4pm at Irvine Funeral Home Reception Centre, 4 James Street East, Brockville. Friends and family are invited to share their favorite memories at this time.

The family would like to extend their deepest gratitude and appreciation to the compassionate team at the BGH Palliative Care Centre who made his last two weeks most comfortable. Heartfelt thank you's to Dr. Gerald Ashe, Dr. Patricia Hoyeck and Dr. Andrew Thomas.

Donations made in Doug's memory to the Brockville and District Hospital Foundation Palliative Care Program or the Canadian Cancer Society will be gratefully acknowledged.

Condolences may be sent on the memory wall above.

“Say not in Grief, he is no more, But live in thankfulness that he was.” A Hebrew Proverb
