Obituary for Dennis Anthony Foley

Dennis A Foley
July 4, 1932 – Feb 15, 2022

The Tiger has lost his roar. Dennis was the older brother to Marie, Margret and Bud (Bernard). They grew up on Main St. in Toronto and spent many summers in Huntsville with family. Dennis left school early to experience the world and became a Leading Seaman serving on the Haida with the Royal Canadian Navy from 51 – 56. He met his future bride Joan Duncan while stationed in Halifax and they returned to Toronto and married in October 1956. They moved to Burlington, started a family and Dennis began submitting photographs and storylines to the Burlington Telegraph, The Globe and Mail and the Toronto Star. With this new profession, he moved the family to Ottawa, took a job with the Ottawa Citizen and eventually purchased a farm in North Gower in 1966. While working full time, Dennis began breeding and showing Quarter Horses, farming, and raising a family. After retiring from the Citizen, he and Joan sold the farm and resettled to the Brockville area to live out retirement and be closer to the water as when they met.

Dennis slipped away peacefully and his spirit has joined his beloved wife Joan, daughter Dawn and brother Bud. His sisters Marie (Bill) and Margret, his children Michael, Christopher, Felicia and Terence, his grands sons Matt Archer, Brenden & Liam Foley and their Mom Carol Johnston, and his extended family in Toronto and Peterborough mourn his passing. Cremation has taken place. Family and friends are invited to a funeral mass at St. Francis Xavier Parish, 66 Church St., Brockville, ON. on Friday, March 4, 2022 at 2 pm. The family will also have a graveside service in Malakoff in the Spring.

The family would like to thank the extraordinary staff at both the Royal Brock Retirement complex in Brockville and the Centennial Manor Long Term Care facility in Bancroft for taking such good care of our Father. We would also like to thank all his friends who took the time to help him in his time of need over the years.

Memorial donations to the Knights of Columbus (Branch 1049), the Retired Catholic Priest Fund (cheque made payable to St. Francis Xavier Church - Retired Priest Fund), Doctors without Borders, and the Canadian Cancer Society would be greatly appreciated by the family. Arrangements are entrusted to the Irvine Funeral Home, 4 James St., E., Brockville. Leave a condolence, share a memory by clicking on the Memory Button above.
