It is with great sadness that the family of Denise Geneau Bajinski announce her passing at the age 97 years, peacefully at the Brockville General Hospital surrounded by loved ones on Monday, August 7, 2023.
Denise is survived by six children Sue (Roy) Pyke, Louise (Sandy) Henderson, Aline Saunders, Mike (Ruth) Geneau, Jean-Paul (JP) Janet Geneau and Dan (Elaine) Geneau. Also survived by 13 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, 4 step children and 10 step-grandchildren. Predeceased by her parents Edward and Denise Allaert, her brother (Fern), sister Fleurette, her two sons Dennis and Bob, her first husband Marcel (who she married July 27, 1946) and raised 7 children for 35 years and her second husband Zyg Bajinski of 11 years.
Denise was born in Montreal, Quebec on February 22,1926. As a young orphan at the age of 14 Mom knew how empty a life could be when left all alone, so she devoted herself to raising a close knit family that shared her and Dad’s unconditional love. The family home was the center of activity around the “circle” (Royal Crescent). Not only would her seven children be busy rushing in and out raising a ruckus but neighborhood children were always welcomed in the fray. Our Sunday picnic trips to Mallorytown with Mom and Dad, 7 kids, 2-3 tagalong friends and a day’s worth of food, toys, swimming supplies, fishing gear all jammed into a small Dodge sedan with a boat in tow was a sight to behold.
While raising her family she also helped provide for them by working part-time and full-time jobs. She was employed by Black and Decker for 25 years and was also a French translator for the local court system for ten years.
The family wishes to send a special thank-you to the staff in the Palliative Care Unit at the Brockville General Hospital and also the staff and her many friends at Mayfield Retirement Home in Prescott who helped Mom adjust to her new life there during the past year.
Her constant love and dedication to her family was uppermost in all that Denise did. To have her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren around her gave Mom the greatest joy. Her and Dad’s legacy will live on for many generations. Her loved ones will continue to honour her legacy by living their lives to the fullest.
Mom rest peacefully knowing your children, grandchildren and great grandchildren will remember you with love, laughter and deep affection.
Family and friends may call at the Irvine Funeral Home & Chapel, 4 James Street East, Brockville on Thursday, August 10th from 6-8 p.m. The Liturgy of the Christian Funeral will be celebrated at St. Francis Xavier Church, 66 Church St., Brockville on Friday, August 11th at 10 a.m. Interment will follow at St. Francis Xavier Cemetery.
