McMILLAN, Christina Ruth
December 19, 1928 - April 30, 2020

Passed away peacefully, in accordance with her wishes, at St. Lawrence Lodge in Brockville on Thursday, April 30, 2020. She was predeceased by her parents, William D. McMillan and Mary “Minnie” (nee Macfarlane), her sisters Elizabeth “Bunty” Gilpin (Jack), Evelyn Heately (Bill), and brother Alex McMillan (Viola). She is survived by her nieces and nephews; Heather Elmore (Joel) of Danville, California; Ross Heately (Pat) of Orangeville; Scott McMillan (Jackie) of Port Hope; Betsy Heately of Brockville; Robert Heately (Judy) of Sudbury, and cousin Alison McMullen (Michael) of Ottawa. Cherished great aunt to John, Allison, Greg and Andrea.

Christine was born in Montreal, and graduated from Montreal General Hospital School of Nursing in 1950, and McGill University in 1952. She had a very distinguished and dedicated nursing career at the Montreal General Hospital, and retired to Brockville in 1992.

In her years in Brockville she became involved in the community, with the UCW at Wall Street United Church, Meals on Wheels, and Scottish Country Dancing. She remained good friends with her co-members of the Montreal General Hospital Alumni Association, and participated regularly in their functions. She enjoyed extensive travel over the years, including visits to China, Israel, and many trips to Scotland.

Nothing pleased her more than getting together with her nieces and nephews and their families. Christine also always looked forward to her quiet times sitting in her sunroom reading a good book, with the company of her beloved cat Hamish.

The family would like to sincerely thank Dr. Ambrose Au of Brockville, and also the staff at St. Lawrence Lodge, the Wedgewood Retirement Residence, and the Ottawa Hospital Nephrology Clinic, for their compassionate care, and attention they provided to Christine over the years.

In keeping with her wishes, there will be no visitation or funeral service. Arrangements and donations entrusted to the IRVINE FUNERAL HOME, Brockville, with interment at Oakland Cemetery at a later date. In Christine’s memory, donations to Ottawa Hospital Foundation, Nephrology would be greatly appreciated.

Please take a moment to send a condolence or share a special thought of Christina on the Memory Wall above. Thank you.

Brian and I never had the privilege of meeting Christine, but we seemed to get to know her through all of you.

An accomplished women, a kind heart and very definite thoughts and wishes is how we imagined her. We also know how highly Ross and Pat spoke of her. She was so fortunate to have so many of her family to watch over her and be part of her life right to the very end.

We are sorry to hear of her passing yet know she felt her time was due. May you rest in peace Christine.

I remember the day we met Hamish, it was on Grandma Viola’s beautiful deck in Brockville. This orange chatty cat did not want to go away and kept coming back to visit Grandma Viola, that I’m pretty sure wanted nothing to do with him. That is when Auntie Christine offered to take him in and she never regretted it. Hamish went from a street cat to a well loved, and fed, house cat that seemed to keep getting bigger every time we visited. He brought a lot of joy to Auntie Christine and me when I visited and he always seemed to gravitate towards those that hated cat fur on them, mainly my dad Scott.

I will also remember visiting Auntie Christine and the family for her 90th birthday party at Betsy’s place. It was always fun visiting Brockville, first because it’s a beautiful place, second to chat with Auntie Christine to find out how she really feels about life, and third to see Betsy’s new place! Always an adventure and joy to go on these trips, especially when we take the scenic route, when certain individuals are driving (aka Scott).

I will always cherish these moments and many more and I’m so glad that Auntie Christine was able to go peacefully and on her own terms.
Love you for ever and always,
Andrea
