Obituary for Beatrice Irene Mooney (Halpenny)

MOONEY, Beatrice Irene (nee Halpenny), entered into rest on Monday January 7, 2019, in her 104th year. Much loved wife of the late Edwin Webster Mooney, she was predeceased by her sons Neil and Alan. Survived by her daughter Lorraine (Tim), son Glenn (Pam), and daughters-in-law Chris and Rosemarie. Gramma Bea will be lovingly remembered by 7 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. Born and raised in Burritts Rapids, she earned her teaching certificate and taught school until she married Edwin. They farmed until moving to Brockville in 1956 to become agents for the Esso bulk plant, which they ran until their retirement. Bea was active in her church as a Sunday school teacher and member of the United Church Women. After retirement she was involved in the community as a volunteer at the BGH and delivered Meals on Wheels for many years. Bea was named Brockville’s Senior Citizen of the Year in 1997 in recognition of her community service.

Bea’s family will be holding a celebration of her life on Saturday January 19th, 2:30pm at Irvine Memorial Chapel, Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Maitland.

Bea’s family asks that those that wish to honour her contribution to life, which touched so many lives, make a special effort to be kind and helpful to someone that could use the support at this time. Visit an online memorial at www.irvinememorial.com.
