On November 8, 2022 Anastasios Paloukos, better known as Taso, entered into rest at the Brockville General Hospital surrounded by his family. He is survived by his beloved wife Flora and children Kosta (Monica), Patty Dimopoulos (Micheal), and Jamie (Dean); by his grandson Anastasios-Alexander, and step grandchildren Ivan and Payge. He will be dearly missed by his sister Argiro (Lambros) and several nieces, nephews, cousins, and godchildren both in Greece and Canada. He was predeceased by his parents Kostantinos and Panagiota, his siblings Athanasia, Pangiotis, Giorgios, and Triantafilli.
Taso was born in Nymfasia, Arkadia, Greece. He developed a strong work ethic tending to the family’s goats in the Mainalon Mountains. After leaving his parents farm he spent some years serving in the military before immigrating to Canada in 1967. His intention was to return to Greece, however, God had a different plan. Taso met his sweetheart, Flora, and they settled in Brockville to raise their family. Taso’s first visit to Greece was after 18 years as a married father of three. Taso was a strong man who loved his family more than anything. He loved his traditional Greek dancing, a good game of cards and always kept his measuring tape handy. He worked hard and bought an existing restaurant the "Ground and Round" which he ran until 1993. He decided to buy another restaurant at that time in Lansdowne where he worked until his retirement. Taso was generous with his time, talents and resources. He served as a member of the Brockville Analypsis Greek Orthodox Church Council, sponsored local athletic teams, meal programs and various other causes. Taso was diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease in 2013 and moved into St. Lawrence Lodge in 2017. The Family is forever grateful to St. Lawrence Lodge for providing a safe, caring environment where Taso was able to make the most of life. They are also grateful to the Brockville General Hospital Palliative Care Team for their tremendous compassion during his final days. Taso was loved and will be missed by many.
