Obituary for Kay Weststrate (Kole)

Kay Weststrate (nee Kole), at the age of 88 years, died suddenly at her home on the morning of Sunday, October 7, 2018. Beloved wife for 67 years of Maarten Weststrate. Sister of Janette Molhoek of the Netherlands and Nell Weststrate of Prescott. Predeceased by sister Lies Muis of the Netherlands. She will be sadly missed by daughter Claudette Weststrate (Gerry Gustar) and her sons John Weststrate (Margaret Plume) and Jack Weststrate (Karen Kennedy). Proud grandmother of Jason Weststrate (Jodie), Johanna Weststar (Evan Jones), Danna Thames (Marcus), Katie Weststrate (Jim Phillips), Nicholas Weststrate (Bryan Chhun), Lisa Hawkey (Andy), Ben Weststrate and great-grandmother of Jessie, Rawnie, Jade, Anneke, Marcus Junior, Merrick, Ella, Jake, Benji, Kole and Lucas. Dear sister-in-law of Trudy and Len Kroes of Woodstock, Coby Weststrate of Owen Sound and aunt to many nieces and nephews in Canada and the Netherlands.

Family and friends are invited to pay their respects at Irvine Memorial Chapel at Roselawn, 2451 County Road 15, Maitland on Wednesday, October 10, 2018 from 1-3 pm with tributes being shared at 2 pm. Send condolences online at www.irvinememorial.com.

Dear Maarten, Claudette, John, Jack and all members of the Weststrate family, sad to hear of the passing of Kay. We have wonderful memories of our time with her in Canada, I remember Chipping logs at Jacks house and of course Maarten and Kay were there to give a hand, it was hard work and we all wanted to stop for a rest, but Kay would not stop, so we all had to keep working. Thinking of you all at this sad time.

I remember sitting on the veranda of the cottage, a few years ago, with Kay and Claudette. We were eating watermelon an watching the sun come down. It was a good way to end a very pleasant day. We came to a Weststrate Boxing Day celebration and again we were welcomed. I know what it’s like to lose a parent, my only wish for everyone so much closer to Kay than me is that with time, the good memories you have of your times together will be stronger than the pain of her loss that you are feeling now.
